Text-A-Squirrel Operation Aims to Help Scottish Squirrel Population





A scheme introduced in Aberdeen is asking residents to text any sightings of squirrels in the area, with an aim to mapping the population of squirrels in Scotland, the BBC reports today.

Sightings can be reported by texting RED or GREY, followed by the area, street or postcode where it was seen, and the person’s name, to 88802.

The scheme runs until the end of March 2011 and a similar scheme in October 2010 resulted on 154 squirrel sighting reports being sent in.  You can also report sightings via the SWT (Scottish Wildlife Trust) website, which somewhat morbidly has more options to report dead squirrels than live ones…
